Terry Burrell

Trinidadian Terry Burrell is highly regarded for her numerous appearances in popular Broadway shows including Into The Woods, Honky Tonk Nights, Swinging On a Star and Dream Girls. In 1978 she appeared in Eubie, a musical revue of compositions by ragtime and early jazz pianist Eubie Blake. Ms. Burrell played ‘Julie’ in Harold Prince's London production of Show Boat, a roll she reprised more recently at Signature Theatre in Washington D.C. Additional credits include Off Broadway performances of Almost Heaven, And The World Goes Round and Taking a Chance On Love. She has performed in concert at the Radio City Music Hall, for Jazz In July at the 92nd Street Y and at the Oslo Jazz Festival and many other festivals and concert series. Ms. Burrell has been honored with nominations for Helen Hayes Awards for her work in both Queenie Pie and Show Boat.

In 2012 Ms. Burrell wrote and starred in Ethel, a stage celebration of jazz singer Ethel Waters, a star of 1920s Cotton Club floorshows and Broadway revues, known for making the iconic songs “Stormy Weather and “Am I Blue” famous. Terry Burrell has also performed with Vernel Bagneris on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
